Description
Ventisquero Obliqua, La Roblería Vineyard, from Apalta, Colchagua Valley, Chile.
Tasting Notes: Deep red with violet hues. Fresh red fruit like raspberries mingles with white pepper, herbal notes, and soft spice. Firm structure and pronounced, chalky tannins with fresh acidity, well-balanced and long — a high-elevation Carménère with unusual tension and cellaring potential up to 20 years.
Fun Fact: Named for the Nothofagus obliqua, a noble native tree that grows among a small selection of low-yielding vines at the highest point of the Apalta vineyard. This mostly Carménère wine was developed in collaboration with famed Australian winemaker John Duval (formerly of Penfolds), who began working with Ventisquero in 2003.
